Meet Jack... as in "You don't know Jack" - he's a modified Tony the Toy Box Monster from the Big Book of Knitted Monsters by Rebecca Danger.

This angry looking fella was knit for fellow Raveler Jessica aka SameOldKnit to help with all her Halloween trick-or-treaters.

I wanted to create a Tim Burton-esque monster and looked to Nightmare Before Christmas for inspiration. To me he's adorable, but from the comments I got on Flickr & Raverly.. popular opinion is that he looks scary & mean?!

I dunno... cute scary and cute mean, if there is such a thing.

Halloween came and went. The kids hit the neighborhood hard and had full pillowcases of candy to show for their efforts!

And imagine my delight when I spotted Elvis passing out candy. He's lucky there was a line of trick-or-treaters behind me or I would have asked to take another photo sitting on his lap! ;P

Fellow knitter & Raveler JGM 'tweeted' my photo of my Shaun & Ed monsters to Simon Pegg and Simon Pegg 're-tweeted' them! I am such a fangirl, that when Jason pm'd me this news on Ravelry, I geeked out big time. I am not on twitter, so I'm not entirely sure how it all works, but I do know that Simon Pegg saw my little monsters and that makes me so incredibly happy!

Shaun monster & zombie Ed were knit for my zombie love'n buddy Michelle aka Hapi2Run on Ravelry for the 'Things that go bump in the night' monster swap in the Danger Crafts Group I mod .. also on Rav. Shaun was made from Gort the Gym Bag Monster & Ed from Baldwin the Bathroom Monster - both patterns can be found in Rebecca Danger's The Big Book of Knitted Monsters.

I had so much fun knitting this monster up! Malcolm the Monday Monster is a new pattern from Rebecca Danger in the latest issue of Knit Simple magazine, Fall 2011 issue.

My monster, which I've decided is pretty much me.. in monster form, can't quite function without that first cuppa joe. "Instant human, just add coffee" well, this is what I look like before I've had any caffeine ... ye-ow! Notice that artsy fartsy hand painted mug? That's a Jakey original and I adore it to bits. He made that for me at the rip ol'age of 6 and if you look closely you can make out M O M at the bottom of the mug ... awwwwwwwwwww ♥

Mama hate's Monday's monster was knit with the rest of my Dancing Dog Dye Works club yarn - Tropical Twist in Twist Sock. I divided the yarn in half and matched up the stripe sequence so I could knit w/the yarn held double for a DK weight. I used all but about 4 yards - talk about cutting it close! The safety eyes are from Etsy seller 6060 - this monster used 9mm.

If you hate Monday's as much as I do, knit one of these little monsters and you're sure to start your week off with a smile!

school is out, summer is here and socks have been knit

The first day of summer has arrived. We survived the last year of elementary school and after 2 and a half months off, the Middle School experience will begin... (gulp!) The 5th grade promotion was damp! not rainy but a steady misting that left all the seats wet and most of us huddling under trees or umbrellas. He's growing up & moving on..... I can still remember his first day of school - Where does the time go?!

When did this little guy

Grow into this?! I blinked and 6 years flew by :(

He made it and we are very proud of him --- although, I'll be honest..not looking forward to those hormonal, moody teenage years ahead!

On to knitting!

Summer of socks???

Maybe not to wear... but definitely to knit! Socks are the perfect summer knitting project - small, portable & fun!

I signed up for Dancing Dog Dyeworks sock club and received my first installment of fantabulous summery sock yarn in Tropical Twist - a self-striping colorway!

and look at the goodies - sour watermelon sucker, Soak Wash sampler & a pretty sock/lace stitch marker from AG mode

I'm a sucker for self-striping and cast-on immediately. Plain vanilla cuff down w/afterthought heels and matchy-matchy stripes of course. ;P

Let's see if I can still remember how to do this....Making no promises of how often I will post, I am always enthusiastic when I return to blog, so remaining ever optimistic.

This entry will be short & sweet. A while back, I was asked to test knit a pattern that has been recently published in Petite Purls 2011 Summer edition by Angela Tong aka Oiyi on Ravelry.

The pattern is Mao - the Chinese word for Cat and is worked seamlessly in the round, top down.

Alright, so I've been knitting & crocheting & knitting some more. I've been juggling projects, but I managed to get everything done on time, so I feel especially pleased with myself!

When I posted last I was working on Zach-Attack's blanket and cardi and hat. I seamed & blocked the day before the shower! It was so well received and look how fantastic it looks in baby Zach's nursery. Grandma Penny was so sweet to send me a photo.

All ready & waiting for that little guy to arrive.

There was more gift knitting - Cabled footies for my sil Anna. These practically knit themselves - seriously, super quick. The pattern is from One Skein and knit in worsted weight, they flew off my needles - fyi, that's my poor kid modeling the socks - My sil has teeny feet & my kid has bear paws, so it all worked out in the end!

Lastly, I was contacted by Audrey Knight of AudKnits to knit a sample of her stunning Smock Top Sweater for Knit Picks IDP. This version is knit in KP Merino Style and it was lovely to work with. Audrey's design is so classic and isn't that color dreamy?

That's it for now - I've just finished up another Mr. Foster Sock Monkey, but I'm beat and I want to watch the latest episode of LOST ☺

When I'm in the mood for a quickie...I turn to hooking~

Yes, I was a hooker before a knitter ... and when there is little time and a big project to tackle, crochet to the rescue!
Exhibit A - I want to make THIS (Raverly link) blanket for a baby shower and I've got just over a week to finish. Lock and load baby!
I'm off to a good start, so fingers crossed I make it in time!

I've also just finished up a sweet little cardi for baby Zach and time permitting I'm hoping to get a matching hat knit too. The Little Coffee Bean Cardigan is a free pattern on Ravelry. The only mod I made was to lengthen the sleeves.

Lastly, here's a couple of pics from Disneyland... it was freezing cold in (not so) sunny California, so see if you can spot the hand knit item in the wild.....

Woof - sometimes even a super cool hat can't fix a really bad hair day ~

Your circuit board may explode from cuteness overload!

Check out Knit Picks Mr. Roboto kit. I was the lucky tester for this project, and let me just say, with a robo-crazy kiddo @ home, these little guys were ridiculously hard to part with!

I am a total pushover for the red & blue combo - but on a Robot??? serious love~

All the little details make these toys really unique and interesting to knit. The intarsia is simple & duplicate stitch adds punches of color to really make the features stand out.

Clever construction, cute design and fun to knit. I really enjoyed this project and it's a good thing, cause my robo-nut wants this set, like yesterday!!!

This Mom-bot needs to to reboot and start production~

Knit Picks Fall 2008 catalog is out so I'm in the clear to blog about my first official sample knit for them. It was both a fun and challenging piece. At one point I was working from 4 cable charts while simultaneously decreasing the raglan shoulders. The photo's show the process from week to week.
I must have caught the 'cabling' bug, because all my projects after this had some sort of cable work.

Twist Collective/Ravelympic Showdown!

So I imagine most who read this, knit. That said, if you are not a knitter it will probably sound like I'm speaking a foreign language. Sorry folks, it's all knitting related from here on in. I am currently engaged in a battle of knits. Twist Collective released it's first online issue right before the Olympics. I have been stalking the site ever since I got wind of it on Ravelry and as you can see by my teaser photos, Wisteria was number one on the must knit list.
I also jumped on the Ravelympic band wagon and signed up for three "events" to be completed during the Summer 2008 Olympics. The first was the '"Sock Put'"- basic socks in Vesper self striping goodness. Colorway is Meteor.
The second event is the "Home Stuff Hammer Throw". I cast on the lace cafe curtain from Knit Picks to complete the top part of back door window ensemble. (fancy schmancy for set)
And the third and final event is "WIP's Wrestling" I shall attempt to complete the Advent Calendar I started...um, when did I start this? Anyway, I'm gonna try and finish it, okay.
So right now it looks like a dead heat. Wisteria is currently in the lead, but with the Olympic closing ceremonies fast approaching Cafe curtain and Meteor socks may take the gold. Although, never underestimate the power of early holiday gift knitting. At this point in time, it's anybodies game.

and that's why I'm posting May in July....followed (hopefully sooner rather than later) by June in July and finally July in July. So here we go after spending an eternity waiting for photos to upload. From May.... The lace cafe curtains, originally meant for the bathroom window, found a new home on the back door. This new location will provide me with extra knitting, as I now need a top curtain to complete the ensemble. Lucky me.
For those of you on Ravelry - check out the "Testing Pool" group. I test knit this cute 'Flower Top Tam' for NeedlenHook. It's a great place to get your hands on some really cool patterns from up and coming designers.
Crocheted this for Jakey from Creepy Cute Crochet...emphasis on the 'creepy'. It was late and I was tired, so this poor little guy got overstuffed and has the look of constant panic as a result.

KnitWhits kit for the Ella Crocheted Scarf was my airplane knitting for the Memphis trip. Let me just say that I Love, yes that's a capital L, LoVe this scarf. I've had this kit for a couple of years and finally got around to making it. This is by far one of favorites yet. LOVE IT!
I can't wait to wear this. It turned out so pretty.
Remember this sexy little number??? The bride was thrilled, a little embarrassed, but very appreciative of my foray into knitted lingerie. I don't believe "something blue" actually made it to the wedding ceremony.......but I'm sure made an appearance on the Honeymoon!
I was also busy making garters for the entire wedding party.....35 in all...Here's a pic of two of the designs. I made 5 different styles.

In the lobby were you buy the tour tickets. Awesome. *** I would like to point out that I am very into kitschy Elvis. Memphis and more specifically Graceland does not share this sentiment. There is not a single item, photo, XXXL jumpsuit to be found of bloated, drug addicted, can't remember the lyrics, karate kicking, sweaty, last days on earth Elvis. Disappointing, but young, toned, sexy Elvis made up for the lack of bloated, slurring, old Elvis....sort of.

I'm not going to bore you with the bazillion photos I took, mostly because it's exactly a billion (I counted) and because they didn't permit a flash, so the quality isn't that hot....but.....here are a few to wet yer whistle. The above photo is the racquetball court that was converted into a shrine of jumpsuits, gold records and all things Elvis. It was something to behold, I mean a girl can only hold it together for so long in the presence of all that polyester and rhinestones. I'm only human.

These next three shots are from an exhibit set up across the street from Graceland. It was so dark inside and again, flash was prohibited so I did my best. This my friends was the cherry on top. All the jumpsuits Elvis wore were hand made....meaning HAND STITCHED! Seriously, the craftsmanship was amazing. Let's face it, Love them or Hate them these costumes are works of art. I can't even begin to imagine the man hours that went into each suit. Crazy!

The dragon was my favorite, but I bet everyone recognizes the famous "Eagle" below.

This is a fantastic pattern for self-stripping yarn. Just look at that texture!!!
Finally, to end this ridiculously long post are a couple of crocheted flower hot pads I made for Jake's 2nd grade teacher. Mrs. "C" is working on her yellow retro kitchen this summer, so I thought these would fit in perfect.

I hope all you Mom's had a wonderful Mother's Day. I wanted to share the card my son gave to me. Ha ha! He knows me so well. I love that little boy so much!

We are leaving for Memphis, TN eeeeeeeeearly tomorrow morning...we are talk'in the ass "crack of dawn". I'm so stoked to see Graceland, enjoy brews & blues and pig out on Memphis BBQ I don't even care that I've got to get up @ eeek 4:30 am. See ya in week with lots of pics!
Almost forgot! I have a new Nephew! Born this past Tuesday. Mom and baby are doing excellent. (I'm totally on the search for mini blue suede shoes) AND.....I was chosen as a test knitter for Knit Picks last week as well! It was a good, make that a great week! Now off to worship at the shrine that is Graceland...uh huh- uh huh!

Alien abduction? I'm not really sure what happened to April. So here's what I've been up to. Lots o'knitting................... I've been knitting for the new baby that will arrive this Tuesday. My little niece/nephew tootsies will stay toasty in these for sure!
Stash busting squares from left over sock yarn for the barn raising quilt from Knitalong.
Socks for my son ~ These socks and the square above are knit from the same skein. It pooled something awful on the socks, but the square shows the hand painting off so beautifully.
Everlasting bag stopper for my cousin ~ and three more completed I have yet to photograph. These bags are so roomy, I take two with me everywhere and am just about plastic bag free!
Socks for me and Grey's Anatomy viewing. It's sKNITches syncopation sock yarn in colorway 'seriously?'. The yarn is self-striping, but I wanted to get a different look with it. I found the pattern on Ravelry called 'Circle Socks'.

Knitting for a June bride. This is for my friend Connie's bachelorette party. It's blocking and still needs a ribbon. Such a cute, flirty, sexy pattern.....I have the same yarn in red, so I will definitely knit this up again!

For the home. Lace curtains for the bathroom window. The pattern is from Knit Picks - Cafe curtains. I will post another picture when I finally get around to hanging them. More for the baby. A little "Take me home" set. The hat is from Stitch N Bitch 'umbilical cord hat' and the kimono is from Mason Dixon Knitting. Both are knit with blue Sky cotton.
Jumped on the Meat Head train and knit up a child size in blue sky bulky. And can I just say that as much as I love the color of this yarn and the sqwooshiness....it's the buttons that make it. C'mon, who doesn't love bug eyed froggies???
Whew! I guess that's it for now. Little baby this Tuesday and Memphis in May the following Tuesday. Life is good. ;)

I caught a leprechaun this morning. He's been very tight lipped about the exact location of his pot o'gold. I'm thinking if I tickle him some more, he may crack and lead me to the secret hiding place of his many treasures....or maybe a shamrock shake could persuade him to talk.
Well, if I can't break him...guess I'll just have to find the rainbows end myself and hope I get there before he does. He doesn't look it, but he's very quick on his feet!

They're back in all their sugary glory. Best colors around to beat the winter blues and enough marshmellowy goodness to send you straight into a sugar induced coma. I'm totally going back for the green ones too with St. Paddy's day just around the corner. My Tiffany blue friend is sprawled across my newest ball-band dishcloth made from tiny amounts of leftover cotton in my stash. I cannot for the life of me remember what the color names are or what they were originally used for. I only had the smallest bits of each and I had apparently liked them so much, I hung onto them all these years.

Yet another left over stash yarn used up. I think this was from Wicked. Gave these to Kirsten for her birthday. Must find more of these little heart buttons. I love the look of them on the pocketbook slippers.
This has been in my hallway for the past two days. I guess it's in case we forget the way to Jake's room.

Chicken soup

I would like to thank all of you for your kindness and comforting words. The knitting community is so giving and all your comments were so greatly appreciated. Thank You. The flu. It's here, it's pissed and it's taking prisoners. Getting better with a steady diet of OJ, soup and fiber. Socks make me feel better & keep my feet warm so I chose to knit up a pair in (appropriately enough) "Toxic" from Vesper yarns. They mirror the colors of my illness so perfectly. Now check out that SERIOUS stripe action...I pulled that off in a heavily medicated (almost to the point of hallucination) couch ridden state. Hell Ya!!!!!

So proud of myself, I felt the need to showcase these babies from every angle....or maybe it's the cough syrup and blurred vision. Call it a toss up.

The mini-clap I knit for Kirsten's Birthday. Used Colinette Lasso that was given to me by my SP9 Spoiler, WyeSue. I have never knit Clapotis before and I'm happy with the results. Guess it was time to crawl out from under that rock, huh???

More sickly knitting. Another knit for the Bug. I'm going to pair it w/an umbilical cord hat from Stitch N Bitch. It will be a sweet "bring me home from the hospital" set. *** Blue Sky Cotton is unbelievably soft, but has tiny fuzzy's that fly around and tickle your nose.
Maybe it was the Leading Lady Oscar going to Marion Cotillard (La Vie En Rose) or again, the medication (we can't be sure) I reached for my old friend Fifi. I've bound off the body and have started one sleeve. Vive La France!

Turning a corner

Well it's been a little while since I last posted. January was a month of celebration and loss. Our Family celebrates three birthdays in January and also mourns the loss of my dear Mother Joanne who passed away nine years ago and now we have just lost our very close friend Robert Mabary. We miss 'Big Bob' who was taken suddenly and unexpectantly last month. Armando and he have been close friends since their High School football days and affectionately referred to eachother as "Bro". Bob was a special man who always had a kind word and quick smile for anyone he met. He is greatly missed but thought of always and remembered forever in our hearts. We know he is playing all the best golf courses and drinking the best beer beyond those purly gates...And I suspect he may get JC himself to caddy every now and again. Take it easy Bob! We love you!!!I have been knitting. It comforts and distracts. Here are knits for the joy that will come to our Family this May. For my Brother Chris & sil Eve's bundle of joy, I knit the 'child's placket neck pullover' from "Last Minute Knitted Gifts". I used the skein of merino wool that came in my Alligator Scarf kit from Morehouse Farms. One skein and presto...One baby sweater. (still needing buttons...)
Baby genus burp cloth from Mason Dixon Knitting. Leftovers from a sugar n cream skein in 'natural' and blue cotton yarn Den M Nit. This stitch pattern produces a lovely, drapey fabric and the color combo is busy enough to camoflauge the messiest burp..maybe?
Would look nice with some Burt's Bees Baby soaps and lotions too, I think. ;)

Close up of cables. I used leftovers of my Socks that Rock in Rocktober. Fastest knit ever. I swear you blink and you have a pair of baby socks. Fabulous!

Another everlasting bag stopper. Love. Love. Love. I want to knit a bazillion of these. Did I mention I L-O-V-E this pattern, cause I do. I really, really love it. Hah! finished the second sock to Monster Mash aka Killer Bees from Yarn Pirate Booty club for Jakey. You can see by the fuzziness they have been used....alot. I'm thinking they may glow in the dark, but I've yet to confirm this. ;)
Armando actually asked for a pair of handknit socks.

He chose "Toil and Trouble" from Katie of Love Sticks on Etsy which was a custom order she did for me in October that were mine that I asked her to make for me. (No, not too bitter. But did I mention he picked a colorway that I custom ordered for me????)

Anyway.....I'm over it now. And seriously, you gotta love a man that's not afraid of color. He has also discovered that little secret we knitters share of the freakin fantasticness of sleeping in handknit socks...Heaven! He has requested another pair and has been told he will have to wait. The end.

Wrapping up this incredibly long post is the Tree Jacket. It's done and it's wearable. Can't ask for much more than that.

Croc quickie

Poking in to share Ethan's finished "Crikey". He was fun to knit and I hope to make one for my crocodile hunter very soon.
Tree Jacket was completed on Saturday - January 26th - I wove in all the loose ends and gave her a nice soak. (remind anyone of canned beets???)
California has been gray and rainy...sorry, make that cold, gray and RAINY! We've had more rain this past weekend than all of last year. I'm not complaining as I love the rain.
Tree Jacket has been lying here trying to dry since Saturday. Slow as she goes.

Crikey! (the wip's never end)

If you are on Ravelry this little guy probably doesn't startle you one bit. He is far from extinct there. In fact he is flourishing in the warm Ravelry waters and you'd be hard pressed not to stumble across one of his cousins in just about every project pond. My mini gator isn't quite full grown, but his steady high fiber diet ensures he should reach his adult length very soon. He's looking forward to warming the neck of a very special two year old in the near future. Baby Alligator scarf from Morehouse Farm.

This is another everlasting bag stopper in the works. The yarn is Araucania 'Nature Cotton' from Chile. This is the yummiest, squishiest cotton in the world! It's so incredibly soft and the color is delicious. ooooooohhhhhh....Orangey goodness!

And lastly, because I just can't seem to get enough of the ol'garter stitch. Tah-dah! One sleeve down....One to go! The resurrected Tree Jacket - SHE LIVES! (and wouldn't it be nice to get to wear her while the weather is cold) And knit, knit, knit, knit, knit, knit, knit......... sigh.

Can you guess what this is? It's bigger than a quarter, but smaller than a dollar bill. No. It's not Barbie's overnight bag for a long weekend with Ken.
It's my new ipod nano cozy! See there, it's waving "Hello".

I wanted something to protect the little guy, but didn't feel like forking out twenty to thirty bucks for a cover/case. Besides, I happen to think this cozy is waaaay better myself! ;)
If you'd like to dress your ipod up too....Here's my pattern.

ipod Nano Karma Kozy

Needed:

size 2 - 32" - 40" circs ( for magic loop)

size 1,2 or 3 dbl points (whatever's on hand) for i-cord

Sock yarn (scraps - very small amount of yarn used) or favorite lace weight yarn

Super cool vintage button

Skills used:

Figure 8 cast on ~ Magic Loop ~ Daisy Stitch ~ I-cord ~ Twisted Rib stitch

Directions: Cast on 40 stitches using the figure 8 cast on method. Knit 3 rounds st st. Begin Daisy stitch pattern, making sure to mark the beginning of the round as it will move across the needles as you go. Knit 30 rounds in daisy pattern or until cozy completely covers your ipod nano. Knit two rounds st st. Begin twisted rib (knit 1 into back of stitch, purl) repeat these two stitches till end of row. Knit 4 more rounds. Bind off in twisted rib pattern. Knit i-cord using 3 stitches. Knit i-cord to desired length. Loop the end around and secure to cord. Attach the strap to one side of cozy & sew button to opposite side. Slide in your ipod and hook onto your favorite pair of jeans or most fashionable bag. Enjoy envious stares from others, you earned it! ;)

This is my mil's hat - being modeled by my sick 7 year old. The pattern is "Cherry" from Colinette and is knit with Colinette's Tao Silk. My mil has had this in her stash for over a year and I gently persuaded her to give it to me to knit up for her. (I basically had a death grip on it and wasn't leaving her house w/out it - but that's beside the point) Anyhoo....the kid was home sick last week, so I begged/bribed/forced him to wear it long enough to get some photo's.
Club head covers for some golfing friends of ours. I used bits of yarn from my stash and winged the pattern. I'm happy w/the results...but my duplicate stitch needs work. I'm hoping to distract the eye w/cute, fluffy pompoms.

And the fo's just keep on a coming. Finally, finally sewed on the straps to the everlasting bag stopper from knitty. I used cotton twill tape. This bag is so roomy and strong! Used the extra large skein of Lionbrand kitchen cotton in sea foam and found coordinating Peaches n Cream cotton in my stash for the trim.

Finally, the infamous bathroom mirror shot...complete with shower curtain back drop.
I knit the Yarn Harlots 'an unoriginal cap' for moi with EAR FLAPS!!!!!
Here's what I did if you have a hanker'in for ear flaps too!

With dbl points or short circs -pick up 14 stitches on side of hat
row 1 - p3, k2, p4, k2, p3 row 2 - k3, p2, c4f, p2, k3 row 3 - repeat row 1 row 4 - k1, ssk, p2, k4, p2, k2tog, k1 row 5 - p3, k1, p4, k1, p3 row 6 - k1, ssk, p1, k4, p1, k2tog, k1 row 7 - purl all stitches row 8 - k1, ssk, k4, k2tog, k1 row 9 - purl all stitches row 10- k1, ssk, k2, k2tog, k1 row 11- purl all stitches row 12- bind off 2st, k1, k2tog ( 3 stitches left on needle)** w/3 remaining stitches, knit i-cord to desired length and add pompom for extra pizazz!

Now even though Southern California isn't known for cold weather, a girl can still get chilly. So this being the case, I grabbed the Malabrigo and..........
That's right ladies & germs. I give you two, Two neck warmers from a single skein. How's that for stretching your dollar. Here you can see the first one I knit for my niece Ashley for Christmas. And this is version 2. (I will be hanging onto this one)

Christmas & New Years celebrations have come and gone....but here at chez Sherlock, we are still partying it up. Our family has 3 birthdays this month, so we decided to smoosh them together this year. First up is my great-niece Neveah. Happy Birthday Sweetheart!

basic garter stitch cap w/pompom for extra cuteness. Used pink & cream yarn from my stash...add adorable baby for full effect....ain't she beautiful??? Next is my niece Alexis, who is also Neveah's Auntie. Happy Birthday to you too, Chickee!

Alexis loved all her cousins mitts so much and now she has her own....Stulpen mitts. Does this girl now how to play to the camera or what?

Lastly is yet another niece, Analiese. Happy Birthday gorgeous! She loves Jack, just like her favorite Auntie.

Guess I'll wrap this post up with some quick knits. Coffee sleeves are such a great way to use up those little balls of yarn in your stash. This one is knit with sock yarn, holding two strands together.

Cotton yarn was used for this one. The possibilities are endless.

I pretty much want to keep everything I'm knitting at the moment. Which, for obvious reasons is impractical, selfish and not all keeping in the spirit of the holiday season.
That said, I will be gifting this neck warmer/scarfette to Samantha for Christmas. And after this photo/blog session it will be wrapped and set under the tree. (otherwise I am not responsible for my actions and it does look really cute with my peacoat..ahem...Wrapping present NOW!)

I'm still in Christmitts knitting mode. Which helped in distracting me from the sudden demise of my computers hard drive. Everything......G-O-N-E. I'm in download Hell. It sucks. On a positive note, I received this wonderful package from Natalie of Hapagirl Knits. We were partnered up for the Knitters Coffee Exchange. Natalie is a mighty fine spoiler. Check out the swag (and don't hate me too much for scoring such an awesome Pal)
Notice how everything color coordinates. So cool. Fiber-licious. Fabric-licious. Choco-licious.

The Little Things

Ah yes, it's the little things that make us smile. Hand spun ~ Hand dyed yarns. Heart shaped buttons.
Yummy, squishy, delicious sock yarn.
Especially if it's a Peanut Butter and Banana colorway....uh huh uh huh!
Using up every last bit of leftover yarn and creating something fun & functional with it.
Little cotton scrubbies.....betcha can't make just one! And I bet these little things will make you smile too. :)

And getting the most wonderful news from family. My Brother Chris and sweet Sister-in-law Eve are expecting their first child in May '08. This little thing made me smile the most! I love you both so much!

Oogie Boogie Boo!

In anticipation of Halloween I pulled on my "Pumpkin King" socks and took Jake to see Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D.
Totally worth going to the theater to see. (Even if you own the DVD) The picture is so sharp and you are able to see every little detail. The movie really is visually stunning and Danny Elfman is a musical genius in my opinion.

Where has Thing 1 gone???? Oh, well. Thing 2 is ready for the school parade and costume contest. The students dress as characters from a favorite story...So Thing 2 by day and "Lego" man by night! (photo's coming soon)
The Socks that Rock "Dashing" mitts below were knit for Tammy and I loved the way they turned out so much.......................
I knit myself some in Halloween orange! Thanks to Devon, who gifted me with this gorgeous orange Berroco Touche'. Magic Loop on size 6 circs. I used 2 skeins - one for each mitt. Perfect for a chilly night of trick-or-treating.

Nobody ever tells you how difficult it is to photograph your own hands. It's ridiculously hard!
Taken at 7:00 am...not too bad. 1:00 am...blurry. Both the photo and my eyes.

Killer Bees attack my kitchen radio and then swarm Jake's foot. Don't panic, no children were harmed or stung, but the victim did report a case of cold feet.

It was a dark and stormy night

Okay, not really. But it was an overcast and gloomy day and a long, miserable knitting week. I had hoped to be working merrily along on the sleeves by now and well, I'm obviously not.
Remember those size 10's I was thrilled to finally get gauge on. Yeah, well gauge in stocking net is one thing. Gauge in garter is a different beast all together. Now I realize while the Tree Jacket is supposed to be a loose fitting garment, I can't imagine it was meant to be so loose your armpits ended up somewhere around the bottom of your bra. Not very flattering and you can see where this is going, Right? Froggy came a courting and you are now looking at Tree Jacket ~ take 2. This time around I'm using the recommended 8's. It seems a little loosey goosey, but I'm gonna stick it out and pray it works. I wonder if this is that nasty knitting karma biting me in the ass for neglecting Fifi?
Halloween is just around the corner. Go ahead and take a big hand full of these yummy goodies. Delicious, full of fiber and you won't need a dentist appointment if you overindulge. Boo!

And then there was one.
Team Wannabe Racin finished with moi. I received the box on a Friday and completed my dishrag (pictured above, enjoying the worlds best garlic bread puffs & Italian beer) Saturday. I packaged her up and sent her off to Emily for the final leg of the race.
The first cloth pictured was sent to me by Eliza. **Note to Self** Must get hands on Sugar N Cream striping cotton! The pattern she chose was so beautiful, I knit the same for Emily with the blue yarn Eliza sent. I also received some yummy soap and a huge chocolate bar too!
Here's my progress on Fifi. I need approximately 4 or 5 more pattern repeats for the body and then I can start the sleeves.
As luck would have it...I managed to choose a discontinued color.
Fingers crossed I have enough to finish.

The F word

So here's the deal. To quote a fellow Sexy Knitter....

I am a Filthy Fifi Slacker. Brought along on vacation with the intention of making some "real progress" ..... But in reality, she spent the entire week balled up, tucked away and completely ignored.
It seems, however, that even though she won the SKC Kal for 'Most Popular' by a land slide....Other knitters have neglected their Fifi's as well. There has been dismal turnout for completed Fifi's on SKC blog and just as I was considering retiring mine to the frog pond... Gay posted hers. I'm in love with Fifi all over again...and obsessed with Gay's Fifi. (minds out of the gutter please) I had always envisioned Fifi w/longer sleeves and body, but Gay's is the first and only finished one I've seen. And, really, could she have picked a more beautiful color. It's GORGEOUS!
Thanks Gay, I hope my Fifi turns out half as fabulous as yours!

And now onto Socks.
There may have been a lack of knitting in my posts, but that certainly does not mean I haven't been knitting.
Current wip is a pair of socks for Jake. He wanted red & black. Thanks to Nanachan7 on Etsy, I found what I was looking for :)
One down, one to go...with a little extra toe room for a growing boy!

Next up are my Rocktober Ribbed socks. This was my vacation knitting (sorry Fifi) I've had this skein for a while and it was the lucky winner of what to knit in the car ride up and back. The photo's don't do this colorway justice. If you have the Socks that Rock -Rocktober from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, you won't be disappointed.
Lastly, I knit up my Oogie Boogie socks from Dharma Fey's Cosmic Fibers on Etsy....Carrie from Socks in the City podcast created this yarn, as well as an entire series from Nightmare Before Christmas. She still has a few colorways left, so go check it out.
This final shot is of the newest member of the family. I introduce to you Treyson Alexander, one month old! Proud Papa, Great Auntie, Mr. T, (second cousin) aka the Karate Kid, Beautiful Mama and Great Uncle. Welcome to the family Trey! We love you!!!!

Okay, here are all the things my wonderful Pal Devon sent me. "For the love of Halloween"... She made the adorable candy corn bag which was stuffed with witchy themed magnets and circ point protectors. Devon is such a crafty gal. I love her so much for taking all the time she did to put together this phenomenal package for me. And come on!!!! Halloween colors with yarn???? I love, love, love this girl!

Next up is Coffee, Tea (Boston Tea Party Tea!) Dark Chocolate and a Boston themed mug & shot glass.

Devon also created a Passport to 'fitting in' in Boston. There is a little booklet filled with all the do's and don'ts and must sees - Faneuil Hall, Cheers Bar, Hahvahd (Harvard) just to name a few...and of course she included some LYS!!! Also recommended is saying things like, 'You Guys' and inserting "Wicked" often into conversations. "That was a wicked cool play". It is so cleverly written and fun to read. I adore her sense of humor & wit. Devon put together a photo album w/shots of her city as well. She really put so much thought and energy into this and I am so lucky to have her as a friend! Included w/the photos are little comments and facts about the city and local sights. And, just in case her photo album and booklet weren't enough, she included a pocket map of Boston that accordions out, then folds up nice and compact.

Kitschy lobster gumballs, gummy candy, Boston skyline notepad and bookmark...Super cool/wicked handmade knitting bag!!! Devon also sent a book of card games/tricks, deck of cards and Boston Red Sox pencil for my son.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Knitters are the BEST people!

And the comfortable weather, beautiful scenery and delicious food ...... in San Francisco. Can you believe we actually needed jackets in August???? I loved it.
Walking on the Golden Gate bridge. I appear somewhat calm and relaxed on the outside. Inside, I was freaking out 'big time '. It was really windy, really loud (the vehicle traffic) and really, really high.
"What if there's an earthquake?" ran over and over again through my head.
Calm and relaxed - NO
Stressed out and paranoid - YES It's a sweet picture if you aren't aware of my hyper-sensitive fear of "What if????"
One of my favorite photos from the trip. That water was freezing. There were actually a few brave (crazy?) people swimming in it too.

The beach in San Simeon. We stayed right on the beach, our room was steps away from the ocean. They had fire pits lit up a night. It was so beautiful. I wish we had more time.

I am now convinced Dante's Inferno was written about the inside of my house. It is 11:00 pm and 90 degrees at least in my front room! Southern California is so pleasant most of the time, there is no need for a/c.

We need to reconsider that.

Christmas Eve is celebrated with my side of the family and Christmas morning is spent @ home with each other and a visit from Grandma and Grandpa. Christmas Day is celebrated with the in laws and friends.
What are your favorite holiday traditions? I bake like a mad women for three days straight. My Mother always did this and I caught myself repeating this maniac behavior as well. It's exhausting, and stressful and I wouldn't have it any other way. I also bake or craft at least half the gifts...another crazy tradition I have inherited from my Mother. She always made it look so easy.
I also love driving around to see all the houses decorated with Christmas lights.
Finish the sentence: “For me Christmas is all about....” My son. As crazy as the holidays get, there is nothing better than decorating the house and seeing how excited he gets. It makes me feel like a kid again. It's the best!
If you were a Christmas ornament you would be…….? A gingerbread man. I like the idea of decorating myself with icing and gumdrops...the possibilities are endless.
What was your favorite gift you've ever received? A dear friend of mine decorated a small hope chest with pictures of my son, husband and myself. It was covered with all these family photos and I just started crying. It was so personal and she took the time to make it. I love it so much. Or given? I like to give hand made gifts. Anything I make and gift to someone means a lot to me.
When do you start your Christmas? I start decorating the outside of the house after Thanksgiving. When that's done, I work on the inside. Come December, it's on!
Do you send Christmas cards? Always Do you make them or buy them? Both. It really depends when I start. If I'm rushed, I buy.
What is your favorite Christmas dish? It's all about the baking...cookies, pies..but my MIL"s sweet potato's are heavenly...HEAVENLY!
Carolers are at your door. What do you do? It's never happened, so I would grab a video camera..just kidding. Sing along and pass out drinks. :)
When do you open presents? Christmas Eve we exchange and open gifts with my family and we let our son open one present from us. Christmas eve or Christmas morning ? Christmas morning for Santa's gifts and gifts to each other and later we exchange and open gifts with the in laws.
Do you celebrate with family or friends or both? Both, because friends are my family as well.

We're headed up to the Bay Area for about a week. Sadly, there is not much happening on the knitting front. I have completed another pair of socks, but haven't photographed them together, so here's a pic of the heel on one. The colorway is Oogie Boogie from Dharma Fey's Cosmic Fibers on Etsy. She has an entire series from Nightmare Before Christmas. Fabulous!
I have purchased "Sally" as well. First time knitting with Carrie's yarn and I can report it is super soft and yummy! I will leave you, however, with my most recent stash enhancements. Be back in a week. I'm taking Fifi, who has been collecting dust in a corner and one skein of sock yarn (haven't decided which yet)

I am so ready for NBC 3D. Jack did a fine job of knitting these up, don't you think? I snapped a quick pic of them on the blockers, before "someone" thought they would look better modeled.

Jack, baby...stick to haunting and running Halloween~Town. I realize models are notoriously tall and thin, (but this is ridiculous).

I got them back, if only for a moment. Super comfy, knit on size 1 circs - Magic Loop. "Day of the Dead" self striping colorway by Katie of LoveSticks, renamed Pumpkin King Socks by moi!

Fly, Fly, Fly !!!!!!! or not. These monkey's are grounded. Karma colorway by Yarn Pirate. Finally off the needles, after suffering much neglect. Now off to the Emerald City and the Wizard and that funky horse that changes color.

Jake has one more month of swimming lessons and staying up late.
One more month for practicing "big arms."
Sooner than later, Summer will end and back to the routine of school work and schedules.
But right now, we will have fun and be silly and laugh till our tummy's hurt.
I love the lazy, crazy fun filled days of Summer.

Yep, the title is super cheesy...but so am I most of the time, so there it is.
I can't express how much I adore this colorway by Katie of LoveSticks. It's just so perfectly delicious.
I'm such a sucker for self striping yarn and edible colorways.

Cast on for Fifi ~ slow and steady as she goes. Knitting is a dream w/Calmer and I am so digging the cable work.
I am modifying the pattern to add length to the sleeves and the body. The original is too cropped and has capped sleeves. While very cute, I will get more use out of it with the mods.
A few weeks ago, I purchased a sampler pack from Karen Jordan of Sharing on Etsy. These mini socks were knit with her "Polo" colorway. Cast on 40 stitches and again, basic sock recipe. Magic Loop on size 1.
I call these little guys..."Hey Mickey" and they will be gifted to my Nieces newest arrival ~ due any day now!
All my goodies from my wonderful 'No Sheep For You' Pal, Yvette. Yummy cotton yarn, scrumptious chocolate and more.

Jack is currently working on my "Pumpkin King" socks for the re-release of Nightmare Before Christmas 3D this fall. He is knitting them on size 1, using Magic Loop with LoveSticks 'Day of the Dead' colorway.
I can't complain, he's doing a fantastic job. There might even be enough leftover for Jack to make a little something for himself.

The Great Sock Invasion of '07

Summer of socks.
I tend to switch to small item knitting in the Summer and here's proof. I have also cast on Fifi for the Sexy Knitters Club KAL and I'm still working on the second Chevron as well. My first skein of Yarn Pirate from the Booty Club arrived the other day, and I am showing great restraint. The colorway is scrumptious, but I don't want to spoil by posting too soon, so you guys will have to wait a little bit.
The bonnet below is from Hello Yarn and the baby socks were knit using Yarn Harlots basic sock recipe. Do you recognise the yarn I used.....does Sasquatch ring a bell????

Monkey's are chugging along as well as the second pair knit w/LoveSticks "Hula Punch"....Both knit using Magic Loop.

Now which project to start next?

Samantha's Shawl

My first full blown lace project is off the needles, blocked and gifted to Samantha, who turned Sweet 16 this year. Forest Canopy Shoulder Shawl was a very easy lace pattern to follow and memorize.

If it's so damn easy...Why did it take you so freak'in long to finish it????

Uh, for starters I apparently like to make things way more difficult and time consuming. So, this being the case, I chose to use lace weight yarn and size 4 needles. (the pattern calls for sport weight and size 8 needles)
I also had to double the pattern repeats so I wouldn't end up with a hankie sized shawl.

Finally, I seem to have the attention span of fruit fly. Easily distracted, I often worked other projects, while FCSS waited patiently in a little lump.

She did, however turn out lovely in the end.

If I were to knit another, I would like to try a more drapey yarn.

I know my Samantha, at the ripe old age of 16, will take great care of this hand knit shawl.

I know she will keep it for many years and hopefully, eventually pass it on to younger generations.

Isn't that what we all hope for? To see the things we create, actually worn and or passed along to others to share.

DSL Tank(ed)

Finally complete. I've got all the ends woven in and had added buttons, but have since removed them because I didn't like the way the tank looked w/them on. I really liked this knit, but if I ever make it again I would go even smaller. The photo looks fine, but the top is very, very stretchy and could have been more fitted. The drop stitches + the cotton yarn = sagging. I think it would fit nicer if the drop stitches were pulled apart more, because I can tell the longer I have this on, the more it will stretch....and at the end of the day it will probably look very boxy. Stretchiness aside, she does take a pretty picture. - If you are a dress form with perfect lighting!

Another Fitted Knits project off the needles and not a moment too soon. It is getting way to warm to have wool draped across your lap! I think I started to melt while taking these photo's. This sucker is very, very warm.
This is a pretty quick knit and I did enjoy working with the Cascade 220. I am happy it's done because now I can start something new or maybe I'll just waste away the hours on Ravelry! *Confetti, balloons, party hats!!!*
Ravely is Knitters crack. You will seriously loose hours, maybe even days of your life to it. Ravelry will not only force you to organize and track all your projects, yarn,needles, patterns, etc. - (fabulous for those of us that have random scraps of paper w/scribbly notes and stray balls of leftover yarn scattered about) But the inspiration of completed knits will have you queing and bookmarking till your little fingers fall off. So what do you get when you combine a Pirate and a Monkey?

Well, maybe....But this is what I came up with.

Summer is here. The sun is shining & the temperature is rising. Jakey's last day of school is tomorrow. So long First grade...Hello Summertime fun! Yes, it's here alright. So why I decided to knit a WOOL vest, I cannot say. But the upside is this baby is practically knitting itself. Very, very quick knit. And yes boys and girls, That is most definitely waffle stitch. Not exactly the same as "you know who", but a first cousin for sure. Victory is mine. Vest = No Sleeves! I will not be in waffleville for very much longer. *Close up shaping detail
I'm thinking Rowan's Calmer would be a good choice if I knit a second vest...Very So Cal friendly also.

So does anyone remember this movie???? Can anyone tell me what the Matrix is??? Anyone??? -Right.

Well, My niece Alex requested some green & purple socks. And like a good Auntie, I promised to deliver her said socks. I sat down in from of my computer prepared to find green & purple sock yarn, when the light bulb went off!

I have that color combo in my stash. Hurray for me! Hurray for Alex! Here are Alex's socks in Lisa Souza's "Sock" LimeNViolet colorway. Knit on size 1 circular needles. Magic Loop Method. Basic Toe-Up pattern.

Skully is modeling how much yarn was left over....Loads of this stuff! I'm sure I can get two more pair out of it.

Now, these guys had very interesting color pooling.... So, I am renaming them "Matrix" socks. If you stare at them long enough you may get the plot to that movie!

DSL Tank from Fitted Knits is just about complete. I need to weave in the ends, add buttons and she will officially be D-O-N-E. I will try to get off my lazy butt and finish her up this weekend. (key words being try and lazy)

I will leave you with my next Fitted Knits project. Can you see what it's going to be? This book is fabulous and I highly recommend it.
This is a definite Winter wear item for me. Cascade 220 and California weather don't really mix well....but I love working with the wool. Maybe Rowan's Calmer for vest #2.

1. If you could visit any state in the US, which would it be and why? Massachusetts, I visited once about 10 years ago and would want to go back. I loved everything about it, especially the history. I would love to spend two weeks there, it's so beautiful.

Mars Attacks!

Is there life in Outer Space??? Do you believe??? (Well what do think happened to Elvis?) We sent out the first signal using Koigu #843D. This was a good start for establishing communication, because these socks could definitely be seen from Outer Space.
Strange creatures started to invade No Knit Sherlock! Creepy noises were heard late at night and there was electricity in the air. We gathered our courage and waited for a sign.
Wondering if the brilliant light beam cast from Jakey's socks may not be enough, I tried making contact with this ancient wooden tool. This device is sure to work as it could not have been made by human hands. You must have inter-galactic powers to operate it.
Our signal was received. The first invader came by way of my computer. He is very shy, and I consider myself lucky to have actually captured this image on film. Most of the time he just hangs around the monitor. Sometimes he jams the frequency and the system locks up. Other than that he pretty much keeps to himself.

Then this little guy came along. He's harmless as well, with the exception of his all fiber, all the time diet. I am forced to knit up my stash, just to keep him from devouring it all. He looks a little too comfortable in my Lisa Souza LimeNViolet sock yarn. Better knit those up quick for Alex before ET gets any ideas. Does he look hungry to you?

He's also very athletic by the way. See here, he came with his own rowing machine. Just because you are visiting other planets is no excuse to skip your daily work out. This tiny alien is very health conscious, in case you were wondering. (high fiber diet and all) Oh No!

Those sneaky martians have taken over Jake & Christian. I am powerless to resist. Will I be next??????

My drop spindle kit came today. I must be losing my mind, because I have come to the ridiculous conclusion I can teach myself to spin....with this.

** I knit on my DSL Tank while watching this on Saturday. It was creepy and dark - I loved it. So, here goes the "7 Random Things Meme" that is circulating through the blogosphere. I was tagged by nickerjac & knittiana!.

The weekend is HERE! Happy Mother's Day to all the Mommy's out there in the great big blogosphere. I hope everyone has a wonderful day with family & friends. I am participating in the Revlon 5K tomorrow. This is my 8th year attending and although always very emotional it is soooooo worth it. Please continue to pray & support all the brave woman battling cancer. I remain optimistic they will find a cure & more preventative medicines.

Now in knitting news. My progress on DSL Tank from Fitted Knits. I have modified the pattern by working in the round. So far so good. I don't anticipate too many problems splitting for the underarms and neckline. Fingers crossed I can figure it out! That gorgeous yarn is Cascades pima tencel in teal. Ummmmm, another Chevron in the works. Socks that Rock in Thistle & Lemongrass. Makes me think of lemonade w/berries.
A little Chevron wave action. Looks soooo different from the Koigu..(which I prefer btw) But I still am enjoying it. Lemony Berry deliciousness.

My totally rock'in new tote. This was hand sewn by my friend Heidi. (Who incidentally is whipping these bad boys up & selling them at our LYS) She knows how much I love Dia De Los Muertos art. Looks like I've got myself a new Knitt'en bag! That's her baby Lily. She is her spokes dog. You can see more bags here. Awwwww, such a mug.

Now you may have noticed this lovely in the first pic. I have been lusting after this dress form forever. My dear friend Tammy got me this for my birthday. Isn't she fantastic??? Love it, love it, love it! I have the best friends. (even if they aren't knitters, they're still pretty cool..dontcha think?) That's about it for now. Out of the frog pond, off the needles and now, (regretfully) packed away until winter. This baby took me 2 months to complete! But the Bitch is done & I'm damn happy about that! Close up button detail. I found these fab (very 'tigers eye') beauties @ Joann's. I love'um.

Here's to hoping for a cold snap..(yeah right!) Bye, bye Thermal. We have had a tumultuous relationship. I successfully managed miles & miles of waffle stitch on size 3 needles. (and by "managed" I mean "forced") Cursing your very existence every step of the way. But in the end I came to Love you. Yes, I'll say it.....I "heart" Thermal.

Enhancing, Pod Casting, Cap Wearing, Oh My! (and a little dog too)

As mentioned in a previous post, here are the latest additions to my stash. From left to right: Duet Sock Yarn in 'Hot Flash' & a toe-up pattern w/afterthought heel, Lisa Souza - Lime N Violet, Koigu KPPPM in P83084 & P207196 The Koigu are just gorgeous! I am tempted to purchase a skein of every color.

Cheshire Cat is for Alex of Lixie Knits It. I learned of her Podcast (available on iTunes - go check it out) through the loverly Nic. Alex gave my little o'l blog a mention, awfully sweet of her, so I in turn am giving a nod back to her. Her podcast is very entertaining and informative in regards to all things knitting & fiberlicious in the great big blog-osphere & beyond. And seriously, who can resist that adorable accent. Give her a listen, you won't be disappointed. Cheers Alex - "see" you at Nic's Baby Shower!

And yet another...My Sister-in-Law Anna & daughter Alex. I love capturing 'hand-knits' in the wild. In Southern California it's a rare thing indeed. This ferocious beast was guarding the counter in the glass shop in San Diego where I purchased this. Click on pic to read the warning sign. Hilarious.
Finally, Thanks to everyone for all the nice Birthday wishes. I had a lovely weekend with friends & family. I'm thinking I might stick at 39 or possibly subtract a year instead of adding. I'll let you know what I decide next year when I turn 38. ;)

She wore an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny "Pink" polka dot bikini. The only time I ever allowed anyone to photograph me from behind in a bathing suit. Today is my birthday. I asked my Brother to please send me a baby pic -as he has all the Family albums @ his house right now- and this is what he sends. So here I am in all my glory. Bald, lots of rolls, needing help to stand after one too many bottles. Nothing much has changed, except now I have hair. That is my brilliant & talented Mom's handiwork. At the request of my Dad, who thought a 2 month old should have proper bathing attire???? My Mom whipped up this little beauty. I still have it packed away in storage, with a front shot of her genius sewing magic. Girls gone wild...Eat your heart out! And looky here....What a nice surprise from my SP10 Pal! Lorna's Laces in "Flame". And ladies & gents....another Elvis sighting. How cool are those stitch markers? Just brilliant!
Lastly, because I can never be too caffeinated....Coffee, her Hubby roasted himself! I can report it is Dee-Lish, as I am enjoying a cup right now. Thank you Susan!
I'm off to celebrate my final year in the 30's with lots of Cadillac Margarita's...so I will probably be able to recreate this shot in a few hours. (look @ that carpet..eeek...and the couch!)

Last minute and late!
Birthday gift for SIL & MIL. Cabled newsboy cap from StitchNBitch Nation for my SIL Anna in Patons Classic Wool Merino -'Bright Red'. "Last minute 'Purled' Beret" from Knit & Tonic - For my MIL Lilly ( I chose not to turn inside out) in Knit Picks Sierra -'Cranberry' . I knit both of these in 3 days...whew! Rushed, but it was a nice break from Waffle-ville.

Stash enhancement. Gaze upon the 'Holy Grail' of Sock yarns.....Vesper (que orchestra) Do not attempt to adjust your monitor. Just sit back and take in the glory of Julia's work. I scored 4 hanks in all. From left 1 muddy water, 1 toxic & 2 wild berry. My SP will be gifted with a lovely wild berry as it showcases 2 of her favorite colors. It was a feeding frenzy when her site went up w/the new stuff and I think she sold out in like 10 minutes. In case any of you are wondering...Oh Yeah, it's worth it...........Self Striping people. I seriously want to take a bite out of them!
Okay, onto the next "S"...........
Toe up Socks in Wild Berry -Vesper Sock Yarns- and....notice anything different from their waffle cousins below. Do you see it??? No Holes!!!! Hall-e-freakin-lu-yah!

Waffle-Stitch Madness

Well.... I have finally completed the body of Thermal. Now off to start sleeves on the never ending sweater. Apparently, waffle stitch has become so embedded in my psyche, it has carried over to all my hand knit projects.

Toe up sock with...ahem (Waffle). Knit with Brown Sheep's Wildfoote in SY-300 Ragtime on size 2's -Magic Loop

"HOLE-Y CRAP-O-LA!"

While I love the toe-up method for knitting socks. I loath the holes on the short row heels. I did, however find this, so I will be visiting the frog pond once again.

Well, I hope everyone who was Irish for the day got their fill of green beer & whisky. I discovered a pot o'gold (actually it was more like a yellowish color) errr, package in my mail box. Oh yeah...Another Elvis sighting. My Pal Cindi sent me an Elvis Christmas tree skirt panel! How cool is that? Did I not just say that Knitters are the best folks around!!!

Elvis fever must have spread through the house, because he made a rare appearance in my living room before his bedtime too.

Not much to report knitting wise. Took a bit of a break from Thermal. Picked up the Forest Canopy Shoulder Shawl for a couple of pattern repeats. I really love the yarn colors. Can't wait till it's finished & blocked. My new bluebird stitch marker looks pretty comfy in his lacy nest.

First things, first. I finished my toe-up socks while listening to the Lime & Violet Pod Cast - um, obsessively. These chicks are freakin hilarious and have cured me of my SSS. They are completely sock MAD and are very infectious. ( I recently placed an order w/Blue Moon Fiber Arts - Socks that Rock & Lisa Souza) THAT is how addicting Lime & Violet are! Yeah, that was me bitching about socks and there I go buying sock yarn...huh what????

Some simple Pocket Slippers in honor of St. Patricks Day. Gots to have the "Wear'in O'the Green"..Don't want to get pinched. Look how cute these little guys are.
To keep w/my Teeny, Tiny theme....I present....Itty Bitty socks -complete w/miniature sock blocker. (it's a key chain) That was a clever gift from Fabulous Sue.
And Finally, a little contest. This is to keep me from finishing off that bottle of Vodka and NO that's not what you win if you guess correctly. Okay, here's the deal. I am in waffle stitch HELL!!!!! To gain sympathy (I have no shame) There will be a little contest w/prizes. So here is my Thermal so far ( not much to write home about. Waffle stitch and MORE waffle stitch and Oh yeah, MORE waffle stitch. Get the picture?) And in other news, I just discovered "Knitting pod casts". (I'm sure most of you are rolling your eyes @ my lack of all things computer related..sigh.) So anyway, I listened to bits of about 6 different shows to decide which I liked the best. They are all very different, so I will probably listen to most of them all the way through and decide from there. I did however, really enjoy Lime & Violet. Violet talks very fast and ALOT! (She sounds a little neurotic at times, but is really funny which makes her very likable) These chicks are completely yarn & sock obsessed ;) I've listened to 3 of their shows so far and fortunately for me, there are quite a few to download and that will keep me entertained for a while. Because as you see here....This project has a LOOOOOONG way to go!

Now some of you may or may not know SKC is currently taking nominations for the next KAL. Tons of beautiful patterns are being suggested and I seriously would love to knit each and every one of them. But....Be still my beating Heart!!! This is my new Love. I saw this and wanted to toss Thermal into the nearest trash bin. I am lusting after this sweater. The color, the style....I am head over heals!

Okay I am a reasonable woman (most of the time) and I have taken a moment to gather my senses.

I live in a warm/hot climate. Spring is HERE, followed very closely by SUMMER. This sweater can wait. I am, after all currently working on another cold weather garment (see pic above) that I won't be able to wear for about 8 months as it is. I can be patient. I will be patient.

All my current projects are knit on "Mini Needles". -Makes them sound kinda cute...Like I'm knitting things for a doll or one of those ridiculously small dogs that gets carried around in someones purse.

That damn sock in the top of the picture has a little (see a theme developing?) bit of gray....So I'm saving it for my Grey's Anatomy KAL. (2 full episodes should do the trick) A little patience is what I need.

Hot off the press....Cable Newsboy Cap from Stitch N Bitch Nation. I made these for all my Nieces for Christmas. (I committed the ultimate sin. I didn't take pics...Gasp! Video only.) Eventually I'll get those girls to pose for a pic. But until then, here is mine. I knit this for the Grey's Anatomy KAL. And speaking of Grey's...Last weeks conclusion to the 3 episode mini series thing. Brilliant! Denny & Izzie...Soooo romantic. The writers on this show NEVER disappoint. I am feeling the love for Meredith again...I was irritated w/her last season. Too much whining. And George finally grew a pair! I love Izzie, but yikes! What's up with all the negativity towards Callie??? Can't wait for tonight. Let's hope it's not a repeat...No previews makes me nervous. (yeah, my camera's busted....yeah, that's a rubber band)

I knit this from leftover yarn in my stash. I think it was Simply Soft *shhhhh* (acrylic). Apologies to the yarn snobs out there ;)

So the saying goes..."Curiosity killed the cat". Not true. "Curiosity knits with Hemp". And boy, have I been curious about this fiber. I present to you - The 'Shop till you drop' Bag -in all it's "Hemp-y" glory. Love this fiber sooo much! I now feel brave enough to try something wearable ;) Very fun pattern, although I did have a bit of a rocky start..(you can see how the bag is a little wonky on the bottom left) and the straps! grrrr.....A word to the wise....Linen stitch & Lost don't mix. I scrapped these buggers 3 times while I was watching that show. But now it's done and I'm off to go shopping! *****I used 2 skeins of allhemp6 dk #102 in Pumpkin and the yarn & pattern can be found here.

This little cutie was my first try at color work. Very easy, very quick project. I gave this to my girlfriend Kirsten for her birthday. It's the cosmetic bag from Holiday Knits. I used sugar n cream cotton in brown, rose & cream from my stash. It reminds me of a Neapolitan ice cream sandwich. This bag is also lined which adds even more detail to an already super cute design!

WIP's, A Giant Rat and Elvis.

Let's begin with the current projects. Think BAGS!
To the left is my "Shop till you drop" bag with Hemp. Working on the straps now and it will be done. Above is a close up of the gingham cosmetics bag from Holiday Knits...(and my first attempt @ colorwork). So far so good ;)

Here is Jakey @ Chuck E. Cheese. My birthday boy turned 7, and I am having a hard time with that....But we all had a good time. All I have to say about this place is there is a very good reason they serve Beer!!! You know what else Chuck E. Cheese has.....An Elvis "Faux-Slot Machine" thingy. The powers that be are really gearing these kids up for a life of gambling addiction. Do you see that the image is of Elvis in Las Vegas??? How many kids (with the exception of my own) even know who Elvis Presley is??? Pretty hysterical & I figured no one would believe me unless I had photographic proof. (kinda like a big foot sighting). Behold ***** Elvis @ Chuck E. Cheese!!!!

Finally, Here is what I came home to last night. Kate, Who is indeed Crafty, sent me Elvis fabric!!! How much do I love this girl??? Kate, you are Fan-Freak'in-Tastik!!!!! You continue to support my love for all things Elvis.... But, it's a slippery slope, so I expect you to pull the plug if I start wearing polyester jumpsuits or you notice any extreme bloating! You always make me smile :) Thank you.

Colinette mohair scarf completed! This gorgeous yarn was a gift from Fab Sue, who inspires me with her knitting talent, humor & kindness. Thanks Sue!...and I'm looking forward to your knitting mystery.... the Un-Baaaa-lievable one!!!!
Light as a feather.....and just in time for Valentines Day.
Ummmm, remember this guy???? SSS struck big time, but I'm back on track and working on #2. (Seriously, when your feet are this white, they need to stay covered.)
Last, but certainly not least....the latest distraction/project. "Shop till you drop bag" in Hemp. I've been wanting to try knitting w/hemp for a while, but couldn't commit to anything wearable. And really, who couldn't use another bag? The color is........Pumpkin.
No surprise there;)

Can't shake the Wicked Blues.........

Well now, that Wicked's so nice.....I knit her up TWICE!
This time around I used worsted weight yarn. Working from
my stash I used Pound of Love by Lion Brand in Denim. This
was also knit on size 6's and took about eight days to complete. Although I love color...I definitely prefer the DK to Worsted.
I opted for short sleeves again, mostly because I live in California
and would like to be able to wear at least once a year! The pattern
is great & I highly recommend to newbies as well as experienced
knitters.

I'm done with Wicked for now... but, St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner!

The First Step is Admitting You Have a Problem.....

My name is Susan and I'm a knit-o-holic . I knit yesterday @ my hair salon & I plan to knit today @ a Super Bowl party. You don't see how this is a problem? I'll explain it to you. I am knitting a Second "Wicked" because I loved the first so much and I want to take it everywhere. For example, I took it when I got my hair done....very risky, hair dye, hair clippings...it was a gamble, but I took it. Now I plan to take it to a Super Bowl party. Again, very risky..Drinking, eating, excitable fans jumping out of their seats. You see, I am willing to risk destroying a perfectly good sweater all in the name of my addiction. So there it is. I confess. I AM A KNIT-O-HOLIC.
I forgot to mention between Armando & Myself we are in a total of FIVE different football pools. Maybe I should give Gamblers Anonymous a call. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which way to the Flying Monkey Bar?

Blurry, but finished! Wicked is Done!!!!! I am now a proud member of SKC;) Hotcha-cha-cha! And now here is the breakdown. My Wicked "666" history. This took me about 6 days to complete, not counting the waiting time for the additional yarn to arrive. Knit on size 6 needles. I used 6 balls of Rowan's Cashsoft DK in "Clementine" for size 40-43" Large and I used EVERY last bit of this yarn. I wanted 3/4 sleeves, but running low I stopped knitting first sleeve at the elbow and then had to recalculate yardage when I ran out of yarn 20 rows into the second sleeve. After an evening of frogging and praying to the Knitting Gods to show mercy on my Wicked Soul, I had sweet success;)

I have to admit that I was feeling a little nausea when the pattern for Wicked called for knitting sleeves on 2 circulars. Starting to feel warm, I found a tutorial HERE. My fever broke and as you see I'm recovering nicely. Wow, those knitting fevers can really send a girl into a panic. I love the web. I would be so lost without it. Anyway, I hope to complete Wicked by today or tomorrow. I had a full knitting day yesterday, because............................

This was a labor of Love! It looks deceptively simple...Easy chart to follow, only 4 colors, single crochet....................DID YOU CATCH THAT????????? Yes, I said SINGLE crochet. Which translates to "This blanket will take you FOREVER to finish!!!" Can everyone say "Claw Hand"?
I'm not sure if it had something to do with the hook size. (pattern uses J hook) but this blanket took me soooo much longer to complete than I anticipated;( But, now it's done, just in time for Ethan's 1st Birthday...And it was worth it in the end.
Trying to show scale...on my bed (Queen) so I'd guess good for a twin size. Perfect for a one year old!

Here is my loot & booty from The BEST Pal ever, Sue from the Wye Valley. (near the border with England & Wales) Sue has been an amazing Secret Pal and spoiled me so much I am ruined for future exchanges! he he he.
Snack attack! Yummy goodness with sweets & salt. Armando devoured the Mr. Porky's and has saved the package so I can order more online! My favorites are the shortbread cookies and Jakey of course loves all the chocolates. And look, there is MORE..........................................
Sue sent me a teeny, tiny sock blocker key chain. Wouldn't that make cute Christmas ornaments....hmmm...better get on it. Also was a photo disc and brochure for "the Knitted Garden". Sue created the Mole & Squirrel up the bird table. My Sue is a "Knitting Star" who lives near a Colinette Mill ....AND.....drum roll please.....gets paid to knit for them! Now is there a more perfect job out there??? I think NOT!
And...a super cute Robot key chain for Jake.....which I am trying to get my hands on. I'll have to bribe him eventually I'm sure.
Tah Dah....scrumptious, yummy yarns in unbelievably beautiful colors! I told you I have the best Pal in the world! Sue is not only overly generous with her gifts, but also with her heart & time. Over these 3 months I got to know her through our emails and I could tell she was someone special. After reading her blog, Sue really is a remarkable woman. Selfless, kind and unconditionally giving of her time, I am truly lucky to have met her. Thank you Sue. I look forward to continuing our friendship......(You are not rid of me so easy...he he he). Look what came in the mail today....he he he. Back in business Baby! This is the second time Yarnmarket has saved my butt;)
